When my marriage ended, I was already living on a tight budget. Then came child support, and the numbers got a lot harder. Suddenly I was a single dad living week to week: rent, power, groceries, school clothes, fuel, rego. The list never ended. What I feared most was a bill arriving that I simply couldn't pay.
So I wrote a little program. Every bill got its own pot, and every week a small amount went into each one. When the rego came due, the money was already sitting there. And when I could see $50 in my Misc pot, I knew I could take the kids out for KFC without robbing the power bill.
That little program carried me through fifteen of the hardest years of my life.
With the cost of living squeezing so many families right now, I've rebuilt it so others can use it too. I hope it gives you the same peace of mind it gave me.
